The ViewLiverpool Review
One of Liverpool’s best night clubs, Heebie’s has a long and illustrious track record for throwing some of the best nights out in the city.
The Venue
In terms of its location, Heebie Jeebie’s isn’t ideal. Situated just off the immediate radar of Concert Square’s revellers, its required strong word of mouth to get Heebie’s the reputation it deserves, but the venue can now claim to hold its own with any of Liverpool’s favourites.
Make no mistake: if you are over the age of thirty, then you will feel your age as soon as you walk through the door. This is very much a young environment, as some of the dresses on display show, but there is a feel-good atmosphere about the place, no doubt helped by the excellent music.
The fine art on the walls adds to the kookiness of the place, and you can’t escape the feeling that you have become a little bit cooler just by being there. Like all the most interesting people, the place has its flaws. Navigating from the top floor to the toilets for example, will require a walk down some steep metal steps, out onto the outdoor smoking area and back up another unusually narrow staircase. This can be tricky given the crowds of people and of course the given the fact that you’re bursting to make it to the toilet.
At weekends, the best part of the venue – the underground area is opened. Access is gained from the street, and will cost a little extra, but once inside the low brick ceilings, arches, nooks and crannies remind you of Liverpool’s ultimate effortlessly cool venue, The Cavern.
The People
A mix of students with expensive hair cuts and borrowed money, plus a whole range of locals and party people who are out to party.
The Drinks
The bar staff are friendly and dispense a wide array of fairly priced drinks.
The Music
Live bands often perform down here, and while it’s not that cool to join in with them on stage (as footballer Peter Crouch demonstrated in a memorable internet video) the music ranging from indie guitar to underground techno will make you want to dance all night long.
The Final Word
Underground clubbing, Liverpool style, this place is an institution.
