Hope Street

In celebration of one of Liverpool's most iconic quarters, traders, artists, musicians and restauranteurs are hosting the Hope Street Feast. Pick up some Neuros, go shopping in the Market of Optimism, sup some real ale or just enjoy the live music.

Hope Street
The Hope Street Feast is only a one-day event, but there's so much going on you'll be hard pushed to fit it all in. Theatres are throwing open their doors, restauranteurs are hosting street stalls and dancers and musicians from around Merseyside and beyond will be entertaining the crowds. There's also some magical market stalls where even the most cash-strapped shopper can go home with a bag load of optimism.

Free Cinema
At the Phil, they're not only hosting an open day where you can discover just what goes on behind the scenes, but there's also a series of family-friendly events including screenings of Wallace and Gromit films The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave. There's also music from The Light Fantastic String Quartet and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir as well as dance from the Merseyside Dance Intiative.

Neuros
At Unity Theatre there's a jumble sale filled with magical delights. The Emperor Bling's To Do Market is a mix of craft activities, storytellers, face painting as well as stalls. You can spend like there's no credit crunch by picking up 100 Neuros from the Living Cashpoint and going on a shopathon in the Market of Optimism which will line the length of Hope Street.

Brew Ha Ha
If you want to do some sensible shopping there's a Farmers Market which, along with the usual 30-plus stalls of local produce, will feature hot food and craft stalls. Other edible delights on offer throughout the Hope Street Feast include a roadside stall by The Side Door restaurant. They'll be selling a lunch made from local ingredients and the Camra Liverpool and Districts group are offering free tasting of locally brewed real ales.

Waiter, Waiter!
It's not just the chefs and food producers who are showing off their skills at the Hope Street Feast. The hard-working waiting staff are taking part in the Hope Street Waiters Race. The aim is to run uphill without spilling a drop and dodging obstacles along the way.

Packpockets
Live music is on offer at the Myrtle Street open air stage with a few dance workshops to help you get in the mood. There's also a seating area to rest up and some suprises including Hopeful Spivs, Magic Tailors, the Living Cash Machines and a gang of philanthropic Packpockets. There's also more live music at the Philharmonic Hall Rodewald Suite and at the Everyman Bistro.

Sunday Stress-busters
Feeling stressed? Sports massage and shiatsu taster sessions at The Dojo shouldd sort you out. There's also demonstrations and acupressure therapy. Or take a seat and watch James Munro create his new canvas for the Hope Street Hotel and The London Carriage Works.

The Hope Street Feast takes place in and around Hope Street from 10am - 6pm, 21st September 2009. Events are free.
