Mod Weekender Brighton

Mod Weekender Brighton

When

28th August - 30th August 2009

Where

Volks, Smugglers, Komedia and Beachy Head

Still considered by many to be the most famous film set in Brighton, Quadrophenia told the tale of mods and rockers and was filmed at locations across the city that can still be visited today. So it’s apt that over forty years since the original mods first stopped off on the coast, Mod Weekender Brighton events are taking place at venues across our city by the sea.

Welcome To Brighton
Mods from across the UK and even further afield will be zipping down to the South Coast on their Vespas and Lambrettas to take part in the Mod Weekender Brighton events. The celebrations will be getting underway on Friday 28th August with a welcome party at Smugglers on Ship Street which is just around the corner from one of the locations where Quadrophenia was filmed. Mod Weekender Brighton events will also be taking place at The Volks with free entry on the afternoons of Saturday 29th August and Sunday 30th August (1pm-6pm on both days) whilst at night the dancing moves on to the Komedia. The all-nighters see local faces including Mojo to Go Go, Hush Club, Born Bad and Da Do Ron Ron alongside a further dozen DJs hailing from mod clubs across the UK dusting off their vintage vinyl and strutting their stuff behind the decks.

Pier Pressure
When it comes to pride amongst peers, as all mods will know it’s your scooter that makes you stand out so make sure that you polish your pride and joy before you arrive for the Mod Weekender Brighton events as a scooter competition is taking place outside the Volks, Madeira Drive at 3pm, Sunday 30th August. It will be followed by a cruise out to Beachy Head where you’ll be able to sit on your scooter and gaze out to sea before heading back to Brighton to prepare for the second all-nighter event. You'll also be able to visit a market area that selling vintage clothes and vinyl to make sure that you look as good as your wheels.

All-nighters at Komedia
On Saturday 29th August, the Komedia will be playing host to NUTS DJ TEAM (Lee Miller, PID, Rob Bailey, Mark Raison, Chris Dale and Speed) and special guest Alan Handscombe to help you get your 60s’ groove on. Make sure that you rest up during the day on Sunday as that night the second of the all-nighters takes place over two rooms with the first room dedicated to Northern and rare soul and the second to mod, RnB and 60s classics till the early hours.
