Julian Lennon will share memories of his father for the first time at a new exhibition - White Feather The Spirit of Lennon. Don't miss this personal insight into the life of John Lennon.
An Ordinary Family
John Lennon's former wife Cynthia and her son Julian have decided to share previously unseen personal possessions and photographs of life with John to show the effects his fame had on ordinary family life. The White Feather Spirit of Lennon exhibition illustrates the family's struggle with The Beatles' sudden celebrity status, and what effect it had on John's young son Julian. He says he hopes the exhibition will show another side of John, the father who he loved and lost.
Fame and Fortune
Before John Lennon and his band, The Beatles, had made it big, he was just a young man with a young family. And this is where the story of White Feather The Spirit of Lennon begins. It traces John's early life in Liverpool, from when he and Cynthia met at art college to their secret marriage and the birth of their son Julian. It then goes on to show what effect John's fame had on the family, culminating in the separation of Cynthia and John and how the family coped in the aftermath.
White Feather
The title - White Feather The Spirit of Lennon - comes from a touching moment between Julian and his father. When he was just a boy his father said that should he ever pass away he would, if he could, let him know that things would be OK, and he would do this by presenting him with a white feather. When Julian was on tour in Australia a group of Aborigines presented him with a white feather and asked him to raise awareness of their plight. Moved by the significance of this, Julian went on to set up The White Feather Foundation, an environmental and humanitarian charity.
The White Feather The Spirit of Lennon exhibition is open from 17th June - 31st December 2009. Tickets cannot be bought beforehand, and can only be purchased from The Beatles Story.
Tickets cost £8, although the exhibition can be viewed as part of The Beatles Story admission ticket which costs £12.25. For more information click on the link below.
