From the people behind the Cream and Creamfields brands, their offspring Baby Cream is a born disappointment.

The Venue
Located at the front of the Albert Docks, with bus stops not far away, and a taxi rank outside its never been easier to spend a night by the water front. Baby Cream is enclosed in a brick, warehouse-style building. The decor reflects a dark contemporary look that passes as affluent with its drooping chandeliers, plasma screens in the walls and seated booths dispersed around the edges.

The feature of choice is the private booth which takes up the centre of the venue and is hidden by a wall of hanging lights that give the impression of crystals balls filled with light. The bar is split into two sections: one at the front and one at the back where you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the water and observe the other bars going ons.

There are no drinks’ menus on display so don't be afraid to make requests and be careful where you put your elbows as you order your drinks as wet patches can occur. There’s a live DJ playing up to date tunes which make the feet tap but there’s no visible dance floor to follow the vibe.

As for the powder room, it is merely another version of a very basic lavatory where you have to push your face up to the metallic wall in order the wash your hands.

The People
Baby Cream's bar staff are energetic and friendly. The age range of the crowd that gathers here is anything from early 20s to mid 40s, short skirts and high heels are a common sight.

The Drink
There is a wide range of drinks at your disposal with spirits ranging from £2.95 to £3.95, draught beers and bottled beers for £3.35.

They have champagne cocktails for £7.95 and an interesting take on a Mojito - a chocolate Mojito - which is a blend of Bacardi Oro and chocolate syrup muddled with lime, fresh mint and sugar, a favourite at £6.45. Shooters cost £3.65. The prices are average for the Albert Dock area but are not justified by the service or surroundings.

The Last Word
If you have money to spend Baby Cream is an option for a night out, but at these prices there are many bars that do it better.
