True to the country of its inspiration this Irish pub is rich in character and atmosphere.

The Venue
Dublin is like Liverpool in so many ways and the natives enjoy a shared history that goes back generations. So to have a pub named after the famous river that snakes through Dublin (The Liffey) in Liverpool makes perfect sense.

The pub is painted green just to make sure you’re aware of its Irish connections. It is also a real old timer with frosted windows, an entrance room made of wood and glass, wooden barrels as tables, nice lampshades and pretty old chairs. Don't expect everything to be in mint condition. The upholstery is worn and the once pretty details have faded with time. The Liffey is not likely to turn into a fancy cocktail bar anytime soon and it is what it has always been which is a comfortable Irish pub full of atmosphere.

The People
Relaxed and uncomplicated The Liffey accepts everyone with open arms no matter who you are or what you look like. The regulars are a funny bunch of older men, and as you might expect they enjoy a heavy session at times. They are all locals and some stop for a pint and quick browse of the newspaper while others are mildly interested by the horseracing on the TV.

It sounds a pretty sleepy place but don't be fooled. The Liffey hosts events every night the most popular of which is a karaoke night and there's also live music. The game machines are also often used in groups by the customers.

The Drink
Despite its Irish roots, you can still find a rare Polish beer like Okocim at The Liffey. Unfortunately this is also where the rarities stop the rest of the selection at The Liffey is made up of regular spirits and beers, including the perennial favourite, Guinness as well as Murphy's Ale. Prices are all well under £3 for a pint.

The Last Word
If you want a straightforward drink in a nice environment without anyone judging you, The Liffey is for you. It’s even better if you arrive at night, when the karaoke is in full flow. Lots of craic is guaranteed.
